Contemporary Craft in Dialogue with the Hallwyl Museum Collections

In 2026, Konsthantverkarna celebrates 75 years as an association. Founded in 1951, it brings together 85 professional craftspeople working across glass, ceramics, wood, paper, metal and jewellery, textiles, and concrete. As Sweden’s largest craft cooperative, Konsthantverkarna has long provided a platform for contemporary craft through exhibitions, a gallery, and a shared shop. Its members’ work can be found in major museums and public spaces across Sweden, as well as in private collections.

Wilhelmina von Hallwyl devoted much of her life to preserving her world as a museum—a time capsule of the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The house was created as a Gesamtkunstwerk, bringing together architecture, art, craftsmanship, and objects from the Countess’s collection. For this exhibition, Konsthantverkarna’s members have responded to the house, its interiors, the von Hallwyl family, and its collections. Their contemporary works have been placed throughout the grand apartments, creating a dialogue between past and present that extends across generations and offers new perspectives on both the history of the house and our own time.

2026 firar Konsthantverkarna 75 år. Sedan starten 1951 har föreningen samlat professionella konsthantverkare inom bland annat glas, keramik, trä, papper, metall, smyckekonst och textil. Idag är Konsthantverkarna Sveriges största kooperativ för konsthantverkare, med 85 medlemmar. Genom utställningar, galleri och butik har föreningen i över sju decennier skapat en plattform för samtida konsthantverk. Medlemmarnas verk finns idag i museer, offentliga miljöer och privata samlingar runt om i Sverige.

Wilhelmina von Hallwyl ägnade en stor del av sitt liv åt att bevara sin samtid som museum – en tidskapsel från sekelskiftet 1800–1900. Hallwylska palatset skapades som ett allkonstverk där arkitektur, konst, konsthantverk och samlingar samspelar. I denna utställning möter samtida konsthantverkare huset, dess interiörer, familjen von Hallwyl och samlingarna. Verken har placerats i museets paradvåning och skapar en dialog mellan dåtid och nutid – över århundradena och vidare till nästa generation.
