Hilma af Klint: Tidsandans visionär

The birth of abstraction! Based on a seminar held at the Guggenheim during their af Klint exhibition in 2018 – the most popular show in the museum's history Hilma af Klints verk har tagit den internationella konstvärlden med storm. Från och med den första succén på Moderna museet i Stockholm 2013, som sågs av över en miljon människor, till den senaste utställningen på Guggenheimmuseet i New York, har Ax:son Johnson-stiftelsen anordnat ett antal internationella seminarier i samband med utställningarna i syfte att öka kunskapen om Hilma af Klint och sätta hennes banbrytande arbete i ett historiskt sammanhang. Seminarieämnena varierar från tidig abstrakt konst och inflytandet av Darwinism och Goethes färgteori till vikten av ockulta religiösa rörelser som teosofi och antroposofi som påverkade de tidiga modernisterna och Hilma af Klint. Bokförlaget Stolpe har skapat en ny serie böcker om Hilma af Klint som tar sin utgångspunkt i dessa seminarier. Den första boken i serien är Hilma af Klint: Tidsandans visionär, en antologi baserad på seminariet som hölls när Guggenheimmuseet öppnade sin mycket omtalade och historiskt mest välbesökta utställning Hilma af Klint: Paintings for the Future i oktober 2018. View of Evolutionary Theory – 1837 to 1874. ----------- English: At the turn of the twentieth century, the spiritual and social movements Theosophy and later Anthroposophy became a strong source of inspiration for the pioneers of modernism and abstract art: Kandinsky, Mondrian, Malevich – and Hilma af Klint. In 1906 the Swedish artist began painting her first abstract series, Primordial Chaos, featuring blue, green and yellow geometrical shapes and spirals. Her main work, Paintings for the Temple, expresses what she calls the higher truth: unity beyond duality and the material world and mankind’s spiritual evolution. What was the zeitgeist that inspired such an eruption in art? This anthology, based on a seminar held at the Guggenheim museum at the opening of their acclaimed exhibition Hilma af Klint: Paintings for the Future in October 2018, elaborates on this cultural phenomenon.
