    Legendary artists' community

Worpswede outside Bremen became a home for a number of eminent German artists and writers in the late 19th century. The artists' colony in Worpswede included some of the internationally known painter Paula Modersohn-Becker, but also Otto Modersohn, Fritz Mackensen, Ottilie Reylaender, Fritz Overbeck, Hermine Overbeck-Rohte, Hans am Ende, Marie Bock, Heinrich Vogeler and poet Rainer Maria Rilke.

Paintings of animated landscapes, depictions of the poor northern German the peasant population, portraits and suggestive motifs from fairy tale and myth that were created in Worpswede.
